We’re on the road to becoming carbon neutral

Carbon neutral refers to neutralising the effects of greenhouse gas emissions, primarily carbon dioxide, nitrous oxides, methane, and fluorinated gases that are released into the atmosphere as a result of burning fossil fuels like oil, coal, gas, driving cars, and numerous manufacturing and industrial processes.

We aim to be a socially responsible business and where possible do our part to help save the planet.

Where possible we cycle to our client’s homes, however as the number of dogs we exercise increases, and we are picking up dogs and transporting them to the beach and various forest walks in East Lothian, we will continue to determine our baseline CO2 emissions. This baseline calculation is the first step in going carbon neutral.

At the moment whilst we build the business our carbon footprint is relatively low, however as we attract more customer we will continue to calculate emissions rates and adjust our renewable energy credits and plant trees in conjunction with The Forestry Commission Scotland.

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are carbon offset credits that are purchased from a company that sells wind power for instance. Purchasing carbon offsets or credits allows our business to mitigate emissions from major sources such as the use of our vehicles. Renewable Energy Certificates are used to offset emissions generated from the use of electricity and is similar to buying renewable energy.

We intend to implement regular energy audits, as this is beneficial to the planet and our bottom line. The energy audit examines all aspects of the business to ensure optimal energy efficiency across our business. After a careful analysis, recommendations for increased energy efficiency are made and implemented. Conserving energy means that far fewer emissions are generated.

We are making the business as energy efficient as possible, embracing technology to keep our clients up to date with their dog’s exploits, including digital maps of the walk and digital walk reports.

In today's technology savvy world, web-based communications including video and instant messaging are invaluable – particularly when it comes to the comfort and happiness of your dog. We operate a paperless environment where possible, and if necessary we recycle!! Recycling paper is one of the easiest and most effective methods a business can use to help it become carbon neutral.
